Whether it comes from a 25 cent candy machine or the local candy store, kids still enjoy the thrill of bubblegum. Contest across the states have been held to see who could blow the biggest gum bubble. The simple joy of bubblegum is a fun way to bring out the kid in us all!

Hosting a green bubblegum fundraiser is one great way to have fun and raise money for a good cause. Creativity and imagination is sure to run wild when everyone lines up for the biggest bubble contest. The person who blows the biggest bubble is the winner and will receive as a prize, a bucket of gum balls. This is one fundraiser that people will be talking about for a long time.

Since this fundraiser centers around bubblegum, why not include a “Guess the number of gum balls in the jar” contest. In fact, have five or six oddly shaped containers scattered around the fundraiser location. By selling individual guesses for all the different jars, you’re sure to bring in a tidy sum of money for this event. Have nice prizes displayed for the closest guesses donated by local shops - these can be gift certificates, bikes, electronics or anything else with a nice value. Have the grand prize jar be filled solely with green gumballs to remind people about the environment, and make those guesses cost twice as much as the others and have the best prize.

Have the hosting fundraiser party dress up as their favorite piece of bubblegum. Encourage them to use their imagination when designing their costume. During the event let them schmooze the crowd selling tickets to those who think theirs is the best costume. When the winner is determined by the largest number of tickets bought, draw a name out of the lot and choose a winner for a nice prize.

Get the local grocery stores and candy stores to participate. This is a great opportunity to get your fundraiser sponsored. Ask to host your event in their parking lot. Have a designated area set up so you won’t crowd or block customers coming to shop.

See if you can set up a snack and drink concession stand. This is another opportunity to bring in cash for your fundraiser, and helps to keep smaller kids busy while the event is going on. Ask your neighbors, friends and family to bring small tables to so there will be someplace for these youngsters to sit at.

Be sure to make this event festive and colorful. Have balloons (the color of the different bubble-gum balls) set up everywhere. When advertising your fundraiser hand out bright and cheery notices with the event date and location. Suggest workers for this event wear t-shirts with bright colors. The tone will be set by the amount of effort you put into organizing this fundraiser.

At the end of the event hand out packages of gum to all who came. This is a nice way of thanking the community for their support.

Your town may not be Beverly Hills, folks, and you may not have a secluded five star spa tucked away in a remote mountain location, but you can have a great time at a spa run by kids! Prepare to be dazzled, amazed, impressed and sufficiently awed by the wide range of talents your children have. This fundraiser is as green as the seaweed mask you got that time in Aspen, and twice as fun!

The spa day can be set up by parents and performed by the kids. Plan on preparing all natural homemade spa products, such as vanilla scented water for massaging the temples and lemon juice to dab on freckles; cucumber slices for puffy eyes and green tea or iced lemonade for sipping.

Set up kiosks at a community center or church family center, and advertise for your special spa day! The five centers should include:

1. Massage Booth. What’s better than a nice relaxing massage? The kids’ massage techniques can be innovative and fun - let the customers enjoy the feel of dump trucks racing across their back (massaging tools might vary). Laughter is free, so be sure you share in it.

2. Hand and Foot Soak. Let the ladies slip off their heels and relax those tired feet and hands in specially created mixtures. Some of these mixtures could include (but not be limited to) an Epsom Salt soak or a chamomile tea soak. This will leave customers’ hands and feet looking soft and feeling yummy.

3. Manicure/Pedicure. After the hand and feet soak, you’ll want to take advantage of the third step. Let the ladies pick their favorite color of nail polish and be prepared for small messes as kids paint fingernails and toenails. (Alcohol wipes to clean up around the edges might be a good idea!)

4. (For the brave only!) Scrumptious Facials. Faces of more adventurous customers can be gently rubbed with an oatmeal and yogurt rub. Use shower caps to keep hair from getting sticky! The secret ingredient (honey)will leave your skin feeling young and smooth. This will need to sit for about fifteen minutes, to get the full effect, so a cat nap will be in order - have magazines available for those who have to wait!

5. Hair Styling These hair fashions should rival the long running musical “Hair Spray”. Bows, bobby pins, ribbons and scarves may be included in these one of a kind styles! If you have a few older teens, let them offer a little judicious highlighting with temporary comb in color (not spray - it’s bad for the environment!!)

The suggested charge for this fundraiser would be $20 a person. This should cover supplies easily, and allow for a nice profit if you do your advertising and promotion right! See if local beauty supply shops will donate stuff like barrettes, bobby pins and nail polish. After the spa treatment, invite parents to eat with their children at a little paid luncheon - they can show off their fancy new selves and give their kids a boost by appearing ‘in public’ all dolled up from their day at the spa!

Who doesn’t love to play with a puppy? Try a Rent-A-Puppy fundraiser! Contact your local Humane Society and ask if they will bring a group of adoptable puppies and dogs to an afternoon in the park. Offer volunteers to help with transportation. The idea is to let kids that perhaps can’t have a pet due to living arrangements get a chance to spend time with a ‘rental’.

This fundraiser works well in a park where there is room to run and play. Remember the dogs and puppies need to be on leashes. Have paper bowls and fresh water available, and bottled drinks for thirsty two footers! Be sure you display free advertising for those bringing the animals, and have the Humane Society bring adoption applications in case someone wants to apply for a forever four-legged friend.

Don’t forget pooper-scooper detail! This is very important, will keep the area clean for all to enjoy, and leave the park in nearly pre-event condition. Encourage each renter to clean up after their puppy, but be sure to have roaming watchers and cleaners, too. Consider using ‘green’ paper bags to encourage people to be environmentally friendly as well as responsible. Provide large covered trash containers around the area. Have available several long handled pooper-scoopers.

Set a specific length of time for this fundraiser. The dogs and puppies will enjoy the interaction, but may become tired after a while. Decide on a rental price for a certain number of minutes and have it clearly displayed. Offer a phone number for making advance playtime reservations. Be prepared for walk in puppy lovers, too!

Have each renter or parent bring their drivers license and sign in at the registration table. Hold the license, and return it when the puppy is returned. Put all of this information, plus the cost and intended use of the proceeds, in the flyers and on the posters you distribute several weeks in advance of the event.

Consider having this event on two days, either in a row or on separate weekends. This will not only be a good green fundraiser for your group, it will provide positive exposure for the animals from the Humane Society and pet store. The Rent-A-Puppy fundraiser can be a winner for all involved!

Looking for your next ‘go-green’ fundraiser? Why not let the pet owners in your community have a special rummage sale day to benefit your cause. A Doggie Bag fundraiser lets people buy whatever they can fit in a bag for a set price, and gives you an opportunity to hold an auction for larger items and raffle off some donations.

Pet owners are always on the look for different toys, beds, collars, or actual doggy clothes for their fur babies. Used-but-in-good-condition items such as collars, leashes, and pet beds, grooming equipment, carriers, and kennel crates can be donated to be auctioned or raffled. Donations of canned and dry pet food will be great. Treats and toys will be a big hit, too!

Reusing items like these help the planet just as much as recycling any other types of things. Post flyers letting folks know about your need for donated items, and check with local pet stores asking if they’ll donate some of these items in exchange for free advertising.

See if groomers will donate a free grooming day for one dog or one cat, or discount certificates for several. Give them the same offer of advertising. Ask veterinarians to donate a free new pet exam, healthy pet yearly exam, or a spay/neuter certificate. If they are hesitant to offer free services, suggest several of the same exams and spay/neuter certificates at a discount. Get their business cards to place beside a poster and tell people of their generosity toward your organization.

Your local animal shelter may be willing to offer discount adoption certificates. See if they want to bring several dogs and cats, along with adoption applications. Be sure to place this information on your final posters, and remind people they can take all they can fit in a ‘Doggie Bag’ for a low set price!

Your posters and flyers should be hung up around town asking the community to donate for the auction or raffle. Include information about your cause - who will benefit from the proceeds and how. Give a drop off address for donated items. Pictures of puppies and kittens will attract attention and draw people to the posters!

A shady park is the best venue - you can put up tables to display the donations. Divide into sections for dogs, cats, and things that will work for either. Many older and disabled people have pets, so provide picnic tables, lawn chairs, or folding chairs for those attending who may feel the need to sit. Put this info on the posters, so this group doesn’t hesitate to attend!

Doggie Bags should be big enough to give your buyers a fair deal, and plenty of smaller items (treats, balls, toy mice, etc) should be included to fill nooks and crannies. This fundraiser will benefit not only the recipients of the proceeds, but also the businesses and professionals donating. Let it be relaxed and fun, laugh at mishaps, and enjoy the smiling faces of those involved.

Chocolate is not called ‘the food of the gods’ for nothing! Everyone loves it and that is why using it to make money for your organization will have a broad appeal. Not only that, but attendees can walk off some of the calories. Go-green in the outdoors, and give your local small businesses a boost. How does a Chocolate Walk fundraiser work?

The basic idea is this: talented chefs from restaurants and candy makers gather for a competition to see who can make the best chocolate dessert. Stands are set up around the center of town or, for a larger city, through a couple of commercial neighborhood blocks.

Tickets can be purchased ahead of time at a slightly reduced cost, or at designated locations on the day of the event. A map is provided with each ticket. People can start at any location they want because their tickets are numbered to correspond with each store and punched at each chocolate sampling station. (No double chocolate dipping allowed!)

Savvy restaurant owners will not pass up an opportunity to shine a sumptuous spotlight on their creative dessert. Other businesses in the area will welcome more foot traffic encouraged by the event. These businesses will be your backup location for the food stands in case of rain. Each chocolate maker is responsible for setting up their own stand.

Add a little culinary competition by allowing all the patrons to vote on their favorite chocolate concoction, with the winner getting a write-up in the local paper. Consider having a special sidebar - the ‘chocolatiers’ can design a treat to sell to support a green cause in tandem with your fundraiser!

This fundraiser idea has the potential to draw hundreds of people and works best with at least one big local sponsor. Wilbur Chocolate Factory has been the cornerstone of the Chocolate Walk charity event held in Lititz, Pennsylvania since 2001 and has attracted over 9,000 patrons. Even if your town does not have a chocolate factory to call its own, find another business or two that can help pick up the tab for printing and advertising costs.

Your group or organization can provide all the volunteers needed to make this a successful event. One of the most important committees will be the one that contacts all the restaurants, candy stores, ice cream parlors and beverages stores that sell hot chocolate or chocolate laced coffee. Another committee can gather other agreeable businesses or churches in the area as possible staging sites for the chocolate stands should it rain!

Put your best strategic minds on the task of picking the route for your Chocolate Walk and who can also design the map. Availability of bathrooms should be taken into account. While not every chocolate stand location will be handicapped accessible, advertise that wheelchair ‘walkers’ need only bring along a friend who can be their legs when necessary.

Craftsmen and artists in the area can be invited to line the walkways with their works. Small school, amateur or even professional music groups can be invited to play at certain locations for a festive ambiance.

A Chocolate Walk is a fundraiser event that your organization can build on every year. It has the potential to become a popular ‘must attend’ Saturday that will attract chocolate lovers from miles away. Price tickets appropriately for your town’s economy, and enjoy the picker-upper of a day of chocolate!

Harsh chemicals pollute the air, toxic liquids go down the drain. No this isn’t some mad scientific experiment gone wrong, it’s what many women take part in every time they get a perm! Lovely locks of hair being ruined by such harsh chemicals, not to mention the air pollution it makes. The days of bobby pins and rag curls are gone… or are they?

A terrific fundraiser that lets folks throw those harsh chemicals away for at least one day is hosting a ‘Green Hair Day’. While the bouncy curls may not last nearly as long, the absence of pollutants will have a definite effect on the environment! Gather up old clean sheets and rip them into 2 x 4 strips for rag curls. Buy bobby pins in various sizes for pin curls. Pick up some shampoo and conditioner if you plan to offer washing as well.

A trial run is in order, so plan a ladies’ night and take turns setting each others hair. The smaller bobby pins make small tight curls and the larger bobby pins make bigger and looser curls, so each woman will have a choice of the type of curl they get. If for some reason they don’t want to use the bobby pins, then you have the strips of material for the rag curls. Rag curls are just as pretty and the curl will last as long as using bobby pins.

Bobby pin curls involve simply winding small lengths of hair around a finger, and pinning the little coils flat with a bobby pin. Rag curls are made by winding the end of a strand around the middle of a rag strip, then rolling it up the same as a curler, tying the ends together to hold the curl.

Advertise your ‘Green Hair Day’. Set the price for the event at a reasonable rate. Since the only cost to you will be the cost of bobby pins and possible rental space for the building you’ll be hosting the event at, a price of $15.00 per hairdo should be sufficient. This is well below the cost of a regular perm. Be sure you stress the value of experiencing a Green Hairdo!

If any of your friends own a beauty shop host the event there. If not, some beauty shop might be willing to donate a day of usage for your fundraiser. If you can manage to snag a barber to do $10 haircuts for the men and boys and split the profits with you, that will keep the guys busy while the girls primp! Plus you can rope them into service as hairdryer holders if you weren’t lucky enough to find a location with old fashioned helmet dryers.

Now that all the plans are laid out, be sure you have a hostess who will see that everyone there has refreshments. Keep drinks and snacks on hand for those waiting to have their hair done. A few volunteers to do nails for an extra $5 will help boost the profits. Encourage tipping - those tips can also go towards whatever cause your raising the money for.

Play some music, have magazines on hand, and just enjoy the chatter of women having their hair done. If you are able to beforehand, put together some information on green products women can use for their hair care. Give them the information when they pay. You’ll be doing your part of promoting the ‘Going Green’ movement.

A clean, green fundraiser to raise money and definitely raise community awareness for your cause is to simply kidnap someone. This could be a favorite teacher or coach, a minister or a community leader.

Select the hostage long enough before-hand for them to clear time on their schedule. Let them know what day, but not what time the kidnapping will take place. If they’re dressed in non-work clothing, such as pyjamas or gardening clothes, so much the better!

Decide on a place to hold the hostage. For more school or community participation, make the hostage visible during captivity, so everyone can get in on the fun. A storefront window would be an ideal place, or a high traffic diner or even the library.

Be sure there’s a comfortable place for the hostage to wait, with reasonable chairs and perhaps a sofa. Restroom access is a must for all involved! Drinking water is also necessary. Be prepared to supply meals, even if it’s only a hamburger or peanut butter sandwich, in case this takes more than a few hours. There should be several people present at all times to make sure the hostage doesn’t escape!

Decide on the amount of ransom needed to gain release of the hostage and announce this on the day of the kidnapping. Make phone calls and pass out ransom notes (flyers) regarding this amount, as well as delivery instructions. Ask local radio and television stations announce and provide breaking news updates on the ‘hostage situation’, and air the ransom instructions. They may need the information several weeks in advance if it’s going to be in a public service slot.

Several weeks in advance of the kidnapping, put up posters announcing the fundraiser and the specified date. Say that someone will be kidnapped, but not who! Name the group holding the fundraiser and the planned use of all proceeds. Place the posters around the community in places such as grocery stores and other family oriented locations.

The evening of the kidnapping, post sentries in high traffic areas to get more attention - they can wear silly looking ski masks and hold jars with a photo of the abductee. Keep announcing the amount of donations required to complete the ransom and secure release. If you have cell phones with video, you can record the hostage pleading for support, and show the footage to possible donors. Have the hostage hold up a current newspaper to prove they are still alive and unharmed.

This is a hilariously fun event and can raise a lot of money for your group. Be sure to be respectful of the hostage, and this fundraiser should bring in rave reviews from all involved!

Need an easy fundraiser that doesn’t require a big financial outlay or time investment but still brings good results? Try collecting donations in coffee cans! This is as green as it gets, both from the money point of view and the environmental impact.

Ask your friends, family, and fellow committee members to save their empty coffee cans and lids. Make holes in the lids that will allow people to deposit change or bills. Cover the cans with bright paper to make them eye catching. Be sure to have your organization’s name and logo clearly displayed, as well as the reason for the collection.

For example, if you’re collecting to help supply underprivileged children with school supplies, say what school it is and what will be purchased. Mention that the donations are necessary or the children won’t have the supplies they need. In this case, a picture of children in the mentioned age group will help people connect emotionally to the project. A catchy slogan is always a good idea, too. It tends to stay with people even after they leave the store.

There are several ways you can cover the coffee cans. One option is using a computer program and printing the covers in color, or on colored paper using dark ink. If no one is computer savvy enough for this, hand lettering is another possibility. Be sure the printing is clearly legible and easily seen with either of these methods.

Some companies sell fund raising donation containers in varied styles and materials, too. In one way, this is an excellent choice for acquiring containers. The more professional the appearance, the more confidence your organization will inspire in the donating public. In the end, however, this option will cut into the proceeds and lower your profit.

Contact your local merchants and ask to place collection cans at their cash registers. Tell them about your organization and let them know who will be receiving the proceeds. Give them an idea of how long you will be collecting at their location, and let them know you will be visiting weekly to pick up the donations.

If you have the volunteers and can get donated supplies, you can make handmade construction cutouts and decorate them - wishing stars or ribbons are good ways to show appreciation. They can be handed out to donors or they can write their name on them and the cutouts can be displayed in the store to boos community spirit.

If the time you have to put into a fundraiser is in short supply, this makes an easy and viable way to raise some money for your group. Remember, when the fundraiser is over, the containers can be recycled or saved to use again. This makes the project completely green!

Did you know you can make tea with the power of the sun? Maybe it doesn’t take a whole lot of energy to boil water to brew tea, but even a tiny savings multiplied by a lot of people can make a huge difference. This fundraiser is fun, easy, and can get the community involved!

The first step is to find a source for inexpensive gallon glass jars. If you can get a local store or even a major distributor to donate ones with a spigot, you will really be able to maximize your profits! Also try for a donation of plenty of family size teabags, or the round teabags designed for use in iced tea makers.

A few packets of fruit flavored powdered drink mix such as raspberry and lemonade mixed with sugar can provide flavoring packets. Put a flavoring packet, half a dozen tea bags and an instruction card in each jar, and tie a cheerful ribbon around it. If the jars are undecorated, this can be a great time for the kids to break out non-toxic, waterproof paint and put cheerful summer designs on each one.

The instructions for making ‘sun tea’ are simple - fill the jar with tap or filtered water to two inches from the top (a fill-line can be put on the jar during decorating), place one round or two family size teabags in the jar, and let set in direct sunlight until tea is desired strength. Add flavoring and serve over ice!

This project can be run in conjunction with any other type of fundraiser - you can serve sun tea at a bake sale, potluck or auction and entice people to buy the kit, or you can print up your own brochure and work the neighborhood like a traditional fundraiser. The jars should sell for at least $12-$18, and sometimes you can sell two for a slight price break - they make great gifts!

Sun tea uses the renewable power of the sun to make a tasty beverage anyone can enjoy, and the flavoring possibilities are endless - so use your imagination and make this green fundraiser one of your most popular!

If you have a small local grocery that gets a lot of traffic, consider asking the owner or manager if you can have your group bag and carry groceries for a day. This is a great way to promote using Dodo Bags and to get some extra tips at the same time. Kids can help with this fundraiser, making it a great way to involve family and friends.

This fundraiser involves buying the bags ahead of time, so gathering sponsors to pay for the whole sale cost in advance is a good idea. Once the Dodo bags are delivered, you can set a date for sacking at the store. Have a few trial runs for the younger members at a group member’s home - they can practice sacking etiquette (not too many heavy items in one bag, bread on top, not bottom, etc).

On the big day, have signs posted and a few people outside the store handing out fliers. You can have a few people and rotate so no-one gets burned out! Let people know that sacking and carry-out services are being provided by you to support your cause and promote environmental friendliness. This will prime them for the donation at the checkout. You can also sell raffle tickets at the entrance - if they show their raffle ticket at the checkout they get their groceries sacked and carried automatically, and if they buy a certain number of tickets they get a Dodo Bag thrown in!

Have a coffee can sitting at the end of the checkout to accept cash or check tips. If you can coordinate with the store owner, you may be able to have coupons they can pay for at checkout if they are using credit or a check. This is a great way to get bigger donations - you can have several denominations and if they simply add the amount to their total it encourages greater giving. The storeowner can pass on those profits to you when tallying their till at the end of the day.

The Dodo Bags can be sold as an added boost - these environmentally friendly alternatives to paper and plastic are a great draw, and attractive to boot. They can be sold outside the store at the entrance as well as inside at checkout. The volunteers bag the groceries after the cashier has rung them up, and offer assistance to load them into the customer’s ride. This is a fundraiser that takes some coordination, but can yield great rewards!
