We all agree on one thing: fundraising is about making a little profit. But it is also much more than that. Be it for our school, our church or our sport team, fundraising demands organization, energy, spirit and most of all, it requires to have fun. But can we step a little bit further than that? Can fundraising also be ethical, uplifting, and good for the environment? Let’s explore the top five reasons why we’d choose to “go green” for our money-raising activities.

1. It’s good for our planet

Hard to go against that one, no? Green products reduce waste, are usually made of recycled materials or consume less energy (candles for examples). Green activities improve the environment, our communities and mother-earth alike.

2. Earth-friendly product are trendy (and easy to sell!)

Everybody and their neighbors are going green! Just watch the environment programs being put in place around the globe, the hybrid cars selling more and more. The same is true with fundraising products. More people are asking for earth-friendly stuff that respects their commitment to the environment.

3. Teaches kids the importance of respecting Earth’s resources

Green fundraising is also a great educational tool. Kids (and families alike) learn from those around them and those who support them. To “go green” is always a good conversation starter about our planet and the importance of not wasting its resources or energy.

4. Raise awareness about our habits

Fundraising with green products sometimes work as an eye-opener. A simple green bag can raise awareness about plastic bags and the waste they create. A candle can make someone realize something about wasted energy in our homes. These are great selling points and they can create change for the better.

5. It can makes a difference in our community

Some fundraising activities can truly make a difference around us. Adopt-a-tree for example can give a little money for your sport team while improving the neighborhood. So can a Clean-Up-A-Thon. It creates social bonds with our community and helps our planet!

There is are many more reasons for green fundraising. But these are the top five. Next time you ask yourself what kind of money-raising activities you’ll put up in place, think of these reasons and go green! Help your group and lend a hand to mother Earth. Oh! And don’t forget to have fun…
